Mall of America | 4th Floor Cantina Classroom C

ABOUT THE EVENT
This workshop hosted by Space Coast Consortium

The SpaceTEC/MakerTEC/Space Coast Consortium Apprenticeship Program Mechatronics workshop will transform/modify a conventional kick scooter into low-cost solar-charged electric transportation. SpaceTEC/MakerTEC/Space Coast Consortium Apprenticeship Program is supported in part by National Science Foundation Grant DUE 1601710.
  • Workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn how an electric scooter works, including the battery, motor control, wheel motor, throttle and electromechanical systems.
  • Workshop participants will work in teams learning about safety, tool usage, mechanical and electrical/electronic systems, precision measurement, schematic/blueprint/drawings and many more essential technological skills.

  • At the conclusion of the workshop, participating teams will evaluate the work they accomplished and compete to be the top scooter in a small scooter circuit race.
  • When creativity meets intelligence and innovation in a team hands-on setting, great things happen!
  • Students are engaged and learn at exceptional levels, solving problems and creating value for humanity.
  • This project intends to provide alternatives in the less than 15 mile transportation space. With today's high gasoline prices and climate change reality, this low-cost innovation can provide an alternative to gasoline-driven transportation systems through a DIY solar-charged vehicle."
  • AUDIENCE
    Grades 7-12 & 2-Year College students
