NCAT will once again be participating in the annual FAA Drone Safety Awareness Week events on September 13-19, 2021. The focus for the 3rd annual campaign is Recreational Flying.
When you think of recreational flying, the first thing you think of may not be education or careers in the drone industry. However, recreational flying is really that first step in becoming a drone enthusiast and potentially turning a hobby into a career! Drone Safety Awareness Week is all about informing the public and drone community about updated safety rules and regulations.
Never flown a drone before, but think it's something you may be interested in trying? Then the first step you should take is to go online and complete testing for your TRUST certificate.
What is TRUST?
TRUST is "The Recreational UAS Safety Test". It provides education and testing for recreational flyers on important safety and regulatory information. If you fly your drone recreationally under the Exception for Recreational Flyers, you must pass the test before you fly. To learn more about TRUST, the steps to take to fly a drone recreationally, and where to take the TRUST test (no cost associated with taking the test), click here.
Now - for first time drone flyers, it may seem intimidating that to fly a drone recreationally, you must take a test first, however, this process is set up to be educational and provide important safety and regulatory information, then answer questions on the presented topics. It truly sets you up for developing safe habits early on and will enforce safe skies for all flyers.
Earn your TRUST certificate the week of September 13-19, 2021 and share a selfie with us by using #WeFlySafe for a chance to win NCAT swag!
Are you a STEM educator looking for ways to incorporate new technology, particularly drones into your courses? If so - requiring your students to take their TRUST certificate test is the perfect way to get started!
We are encouraging middle school, high school, and college-level educators to have your students take the online test and receive their TRUST certificate throughout Drone Safety Awareness Week. If your class participates, you will be entered for a drawing for NCAT swag and a session with our Drone Subject Matter Expert! Whether you are looking to incorporate drones into your classroom and you need assistance with the first steps, or you simply want to give your students a first look into drones, our Subject Matter Expert will be there to make it happen.
This is a great way for students to learn and gain knowledge on the basic rules of flying a drone and opens students up to the idea of drones as a hobby or even an educational or career path. There is no minimum age requirement, so all students can become authorized. Maybe even offer your class extra credit for passing their TRUST test?
