Course Description

NIST Test Range Curriculum Integration Resources This repository provides instructional materials, implementation guidance, and support resources for integrating the NIST Open Test Range (OTR) into existing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), aviation, engineering, public safety, and workforce development courses. Rather than creating a standalone course, these resources are designed to help instructors incorporate objective flight performance assessment, mission planning, and operational proficiency activities directly into current curricula. The collection includes: Instructor Resources – lesson plans, assessment strategies, scoring guides, and implementation recommendations for classroom and flight laboratory activities. NIST Range Fabrication – instructions, specifications, and supporting materials for constructing and deploying NIST Open Test Range equipment and targets. Safety Resources – safety procedures, risk management practices, and operational guidelines for conducting NIST range activities. Student Resources – training materials, performance expectations, worksheets, and reference documents to support student learning and skill development. Integration Models – examples of how NIST range activities can be incorporated into existing courses, laboratories, certifications, and academic programs. Getting Started Guide – introductory documentation to assist instructors and institutions with planning, setup, and implementation. These materials support the use of standardized performance measurements that allow students to demonstrate proficiency in aircraft control, navigation, positioning accuracy, image capture, and precision landing while providing instructors with objective assessment criteria.
