Drone Registration & Markings for Recreational Flyers

September 13-19, 2021

Virtual Event

As a part of FAA Drone Safety Awareness Week, NCAT is offering the first 100 participants who share a photo on social media using #ShowUsYourDrone a FREE custom-made registration tag! Share a photo of your drone showing you have marked registration, a photo of you flying your drone, or even a selfie of you with your drone! In order to be eligible, you must share a photo during the week of September 13-19, 2021.

As a recreational flyer, you are required to have a current registration marker on the outside of your drone, as well as carry a copy of your drone registration with you while flying. The Exception for Recreational Flyers registration costs $5 and is valid for (3) years. To register your drone, you must be:

  • 13 years of age or older (if the owner is less than 13 years of age, a person 13 years of age or older must register the drone)
  • A U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
  • For foreign operators, FAA will consider the certificate issued to be a recognition of ownership rather than a certificate of U.S. aircraft registration.
